Decorative Machine Applique


If you have admired all the cute applique projects, but steered clear because you weren't sure where to begin, then this class is for you!  Kelly will give you tips for success and guide you through the process, step-by-step.  You will be amazed at how quickly your machine applique skills will BLOOM!  Machine piecing and rotary cutting experience required.

Pattern: Garden Song Book from Art-to-Heart
Fabric requirements:
  • ½ yard background
  • 1/8 yds. OR fat eighths in assorted fabrics for the applique pieces (1/4 yd. cut OR a fat eighth for the letter “M”)
  • 1/8 yard or fat quarter for inside border
  • 7/8 yd. for outside border and binding
  • 7/8 yd. for backing (you will not need this for class)
Notions:
  • Heat and Bond Lite (NOT Featherweight) ½ yard.
  • 3/4 yard Stitch-n-Tear tear-away stabilizer
  • Thread for machine applique: one color to blend with each of the applique fabrics, OR you may use a single color (like black) for all of the applique, if that is the look you desire. Aurifil 50 wt. cotton thread.
  • Sewing machine that is clean, oiled, and ready to sew
  • Fabric scissors, pins, Seam Fix seam ripper, etc.
  • Several empty bobbins to fit your machine
  • Universal needles tip size 70/10 or 80/12
  • Open-toe applique foot to fit your machine: THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR GOOD VISUALIZATION!!! (This may NOT be a foot that came with your sewing machine.)
  • Olfa 45 mm Rotary cutter, mat, and Creative Grids ruler (6X12” OR 9”square or larger)
  • Pencil
  • Quilter's Dream Batting approximately 30” square (you won’t need this for class)
  • Assorted small buttons for embellishment (your preference) – you won’t need these for class
  • Paper for notes
