Take the simple star block and turn it into something amazing.

Star points are on the hourglass unit; four-patch is in the corner; center block is square-in-a-square.  Change it all up a bit – make the center one plain square or make the corners into half-square triangle units. Make the star contrast with the other colors to make it stand out.
